BOOK REVIEW #1

Title: The Love Hypothesis

Author: Ali Hazelwood

Goodreads Rating: 4.47 as at 07/11/2021

Sypnosis

As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn’t believe in lasting romantic relationships–but her best friend does, and that’s what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.

That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor–and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford’s reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive’s career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding…six-pack abs.

Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope

My Review

*Disclaimer: This is not a paid review and this is solely based on my personal opinion after reading it 🙂

Time length to finish this book: approximately a day (with interruptions from the kids, minus eating, sleeping and other “things”)

Storyline

  • I really love this book because the storyline is very straightforward and simple. No unnecessary drama from both Adam and Olive (no spices needed).
  1. Adam likes Olive since the first time he met Olive, he saw an opportunity and he grabbed it which I have to admit I love as not many authors like to choose this simplicity an/or directness in their storyline.
  • Their fake-dating relationship is neutral, comfortable to read and their friendship’s development also natural and not hard selling. (there are so many books that have the same trope, but when you read it, its too cringey and the plot seems forced)
  • And lastly, of course its happily ever after (so no cliffhanger and no frustation caused by reading this book)

Main Characters

Olive Smith

A PH.D student at Standford University. Optimistic (this is my own interpretation as I read the book), straightforward, “smart-ass” and towards the end, her character shows that she knows what she wants and she goes for it (when she went to Adam at the restaurant).

In addition to that, you can see that her character is relatable to normal people (she is happy for what is supposed to bring us happiness, she is frustrated, confused, and sad when the situation rendered her speechless and she is determined when she needs to be firm)

**simple yet relatable character

Adam Carlsen

A Professor at Standford University, very-very straightforward, ruthless, “antagonistic and unapproachable”. Loyal and patient (He likes Olive since their first meeting, met her several times even though no communication between them after their first interaction).

He is a guy who knows what he wants, and he let nothing stop him from reaching his goal. However, he is not a sadistic, cocky man who is feeding on fantasy. He knows he likes Olive, he waited patiently for her but when he saw the opportunity to be close, he immediately grabbed it. He put effort to spend time with her, to build their fake-dating relationship. He didn’t force or push her for their relationship to be more. He let Olive break off their relationship but at the same time, he didn’t give up. He let Olive know that he will be there if she need him for ANYTHING.

***CONCLUSION***

Overall, this book is perfect for those who want a nice and content reading with a reasonable pinch of drama. The characters in this book were created by the author with a firm linked to real life, hence it makes the reader can relate to the plot and the characters effortlessly. Short and sweet. Trust me, this book is a lighthearted reading with happily ever after guaranteed!

Note: I tried my best to review this book without giving too much as most of the time, reading reviews can make you lose interest in exploring new books. So, happy reading !!

Mini Project

First Mini Project for Ramadhan 1441H/2020

Assalamualaikum (Peace be upon to you) and a bless morning @ 12.12 am.

Yesterday, 23.04.2020 was the 1st day of Ramadhan for Muslim all around the world (Im staying in one of the ASIA countries, hence the date may be varied depends on which state you are living in). Normally during Ramadhan, Muslims including me will be doing all sorts of activities to be productive to make the time pass by as quickly as possible.

Despite we are in the midst on Covid-19 Pandemic (day 38 of MCO), I want to be as productive as possible hence the establishment of my first MINI PROJECT (specially made for Ramadhan). My first MINI PROJECT is: to prepare “a schedule of Soul Activities”

What’s with the name? Well, this schedule was prepared solely for my spiritual purposes (praying, reading Al-Quran, reading any books or mainly doing anything that can help me to be a better Muslim/human being)

After putting my mind to it and take into consideration what really matters in Ramadhan (for my soul only as for others I’ll be preparing another goal or to-do list?), I managed to get it done and tada ….. (not as glam and fancy I thought it would be, but on a bright side, I’m sharpening my creativity)

Schedule for my soul
forget about everything, let’s first be a better HUMAN BEING

Something to ponder and to be grateful

  • Every single year in Malaysia without fail, Malaysian will be having a food fiesta at Bazaar Ramadhan however, for this year, no Bazaars allowed to operate and this restriction has inevitably taken one important brick of Ramadhan’s institution.
  • However, I believe that most Muslims in Malaysia feel saddened by this step as this step is vital for our fight against the Virus.
  • I also believe that rather than complaining and whining, Malaysians are grateful and thankful for great teamwork and cooperation give by each and every citizen of Malaysia.
  • Thus, let’s take this crisis as a new challenge and let’s pass this test with flying colours and enjoyable memories.

#Throwback

Hi and good morning..

Today I want to do some throwback, hence the hashtag.

Throwback on my previous post on this website before I accidentally deleted it *clumsy*

I’ve posted several thing which talked about books that I’ve recommended, my experience, my issue on whether to resign or nor and if I’m not mistaken, my last post was after I’ve resigned. (Yeap, I did it)

From this event, I’ve concluded that:-

“Sometimes we have planned everything, we have executed it but still the outcome not like what we have in our mind. Moral is, be open-minded and embrace the journey”

I’ve remember something related to my conclusion above-

Rule your mind, or it will rule you- Buddha

and also, we cannot control whatever coming to us, but we for sure can control our reaction and our attitude towards it.
